The 2010 recipient of the Always Dreaming Scholarship inspired by Frank Kara is Ben Kuznia, senior wide receiver on the Golden Gophers Football team. Ben came to the university as a walk-on in 2005 from BOLD High School in Olivia, Minn.
Ben had a decorated high school career. He was named all-conference and all-area as a junior and senior. He also earned first team all-state honors as a defensive back and honorable mention honors as a punt returner and quarterback as a senior. He finished his high school career as a Mr. Football finalist. He was also a standout athlete in baseball, basketball and track and field.
After redshirting his first year at Minnesota, he played in two games in 2006 without recording any stats. He had his best season in 2008 as a junior while playing in 13 games, including 12 starts. He finished third on the team in catches (31) and yards (310). Of the 31 catches, 16 went for first downs. He was an Academic All-Big Ten selection. He set career-highs for catches (7) and yards (98) against Northwestern in 2008.
He finished his collegiate playing in all 13 games last season. He recorded two catches for 15 yards. He also had one rushing attempt for three yards. He added four tackles and a touchdown as a special teams player. He earned three scholar-athlete awards between his redshirt freshman and junior seasons.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in management and speech communications. He already has a non-football related job lined up at Cargill. Head coach Tim Brewster believes he will have a great future.
